A shallow plate of olive oil, herbs, and warm bread makes an easy appetizer for a weeknight dinner or a larger grazing board. This version uses pantry ingredients and takes about five minutes.

Ingredients
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- A pinch of red-pepper flakes, optional
- Freshly ground black pepper
- A small pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon finely grated Parmesan, optional
- A small drizzle of balsamic vinegar, optional
- Warm crusty bread, focaccia, or toasted baguette slices
Method
- Add the oregano, basil, garlic powder, red-pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt to a shallow serving plate.
- Pour the olive oil over the seasonings and stir gently.
- Add Parmesan or a small drizzle of balsamic, if using.
- Let the dip stand for two to five minutes, then serve with warm bread.
Three Easy Ways to Adjust It
For more heat, add another pinch of red-pepper flakes. For a sharper finish, add a little balsamic vinegar. For a savory version, finish with finely grated Parmesan.
